SplitMyExpenses 2.0: Shared group expenses and balances
Groups and friends are here!
SplitMyExpenses now supports groups and friends! You can create a group and invite your friends to it. You can then split expenses within the group, for everyone to see. Groups are great since everyone in the group can see expenses and balances, in one organized place.
Groups are excellent for roommates, couples, friends, family, or coworkers who go on trips or simply do things together! You can organize them however you like: per trip, per month, per year, or per event. It takes just a few seconds to create a group and invite your friends to it.

Balances encapsulate who owes who, how much, and in a specific currency.
Payments allow you to settle up debts from expenses in groups or 1:1.
With the addition of groups, you can now see balances within a group, or across all groups. You can also see balances with a specific friend, across all groups.
You can even settle up with a friend across all groups in one payment! This is great for couples, roommates, or friends who do a lot of things together. It will mark your debts as paid in each affected group.
You can settle up with one click, using integrated payment services like Venmo, CashApp, PayPal, and Zelle.
Minimized payments in groups
When you add an expense in a group, SplitMyExpenses will automatically minimize the number of payments required to settle up.
This means that if you add an expense for $100, and you owe $50 to one friend, and another friend owes you $50, then SplitMyExpenses will automatically mark the expense as paid, and no payments will be required.
Multi-currency support has arrived
SplitMyExpenses now supports multiple currencies! You can set a currency for each group, and you can set a currency for each expense. You can also set a default currency for your account, which will be used when creating new groups and expenses.
All balances are tracked in the currency of the expense, and you can see the total balance in any currency you like.
Over 150 currencies are now supported, including all major currencies like USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, and many more.
What's next?
This launch was an incredible upgrade, but there's more to be done, including:
- Recurring expenses - for things like rent, utilities, subscriptions, and more.
- Exporting - export your expenses and splits to CSV or Excel.
- Notifications - get notified when someone adds an expense, or when someone settles up with you.
- Dark mode - for those who prefer a darker theme.
- ... and more!
