Search expenses without leaving the list

Find an expense where you're already looking

You're reviewing a trip's expenses and want to find the hotel booking. Or you're checking a roommate's shared bills and need to look up an old grocery shop. Opening a separate search screen adds another step between you and the expense.

Our mobile app now lets you search right from the expense list. Type a description, see the matching results in place, and open the expense you need.

Keep your group or friend in view

The search field sits alongside your expense list, so you can narrow down the costs you're already reviewing.

In a trip group, search for hotel or dinner to find the matching purchases in that group. On a friend's page, search the expenses you share with them. You can also search from the main expenses list when you want to look more broadly.

Results update as you type. Scroll through them and open an expense to check its amount, split, or notes, without first navigating to a separate search page.

Add a date range to narrow things down

A description might match several months of purchases. Use the date filter beside search to focus on the time period you care about.

For example, search for groceries and choose last month's dates to review that month's shared shops. Or narrow a group list to the dates of your trip before looking for a particular booking.

Expense search and date filtering are part of Premium.

Clear your search and keep browsing

Tap the clear button in the search field to remove the words you've entered. If you also selected a date range, clear that filter when you want to see the full list again.

You can move between looking up a specific purchase and browsing your expenses in the same place.

How to try it

  1. Open an expense list in the mobile app, such as a group's expenses.
  2. Tap the search field and enter part of an expense description.
  3. Add a date range if you want to narrow the results further.
  4. Open a matching expense, or clear the search to keep browsing.

Looking for the purchases behind a spending total? You can also explore expenses by category in Stats.

Get the mobile app and find your next expense with fewer taps.
