Import a spreadsheet directly into a group

Bring your shared costs out of the spreadsheet

You've been tracking a trip in a spreadsheet, or your bank statement already has the household purchases you need to share. Adding the same dates, descriptions, and amounts again is a lot of unnecessary typing.

You can now choose a group when importing an expense file. The expenses from your upload go straight into that group, ready for you to review and split.

Group imports are a Premium feature on the web app.

One upload, one group

Select the group before uploading your CSV or Excel file. Whether it's a weekend away, a shared apartment, or expenses with your partner, you can bring the relevant purchases together in one place.

For example, upload a trip spreadsheet with your hotel, train tickets, and groceries into the trip group. You won't need to create each expense manually or choose its group one at a time.

Use a file containing the purchases you want to share, and check the date range, currency, and date format before uploading. Our international date support also helps when your file uses a different date format.

Review first, then choose the splits

Putting expenses in a group helps organize them, but you still decide who shares each cost and how much they owe.

After importing, review the expenses and set the splits that fit your group. Everyone might share the hotel equally, while a meal only includes the people who were there. You keep that flexibility without retyping the purchases.

How to import into a group

  1. On the web, open the New expense menu and choose Expenses file.
  2. Select your Group and check the date range, currency, and date format.
  3. Upload your CSV or Excel file.
  4. Match the file's columns to the expense details, such as description, amount, and date.
  5. Review the imported expenses and select Continue.
  6. Open the group to review and split the costs with its members.

It's a useful way to catch up on a trip's expenses or bring a batch of shared purchases into your household group.

Try group imports and put your spreadsheet to work without starting from scratch.
